Concrete Floor Finished

concrete floor finished
Can I install new carpeting over a foam pad that is glued to the concrete floor in my basement?

The carpeting in the finished basement was fairly new when I bought the house a year ago. But it’s a yuk green color. I’d like to remove the green carpeting and replace it with a more neutral, complimentary color. I started to take up the carpeting and pad but found that the pad is glued to the concrete floor. Can I sanitize the pad and put new carpeting over it?

Yes, there really ARE people who glue pads to floors (not me) so I totally believe you! I don’t see why you can’t put a new pad on the old pad. Buy a cheap one since you already have at least some sort of pad down. Then you’ll have even better padding than before -always better. UNLESS it’s really nasty, then you will have to use an adhesive remover. It’s easier if you try putting it in a spray bottle, let it sit for awhille & then pull up the old stuff. There’s no way to sanitize one of these pads without damaging it & reducing the integrity of the material itself, so you may as well cover both.
